Getting started with DynoMerge

From install to your first merged document in about five minutes.

Install

  1. Install DynoMerge from the Chrome Web Store (or load the unpacked chrome-extension folder via chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked, if your admin gave you a zip).
  2. Pin it: puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar → pin DynoMerge.
  3. Click the DynoMerge bolt while on any Salesforce tab — the panel docks beside Salesforce.

The DynoMerge extension installs nothing inside your Salesforce org — it runs entirely in your browser and talks to Salesforce with your own login. There is an optional companion package that logs generated documents against the record; it is unmanaged and yours to edit, and it is the only piece that adds anything to your org.

Who can use DynoMerge?

Any user who can see the records they want to merge. DynoMerge runs in your browser and uses your existing Salesforce login and permissions — you see exactly what you would see in Salesforce.

To use the ⚡ live buttons (merge straight from a record, no export) the user's profile or a permission set needs API Enabled. Many standard profiles already have it — check Setup → Profiles → [profile] → Administrative Permissions → API Enabled before requesting a change. Without it, everything still works through the report/CSV path.

To attach a merged document to a record, nothing extra is required. Creating and linking a file is a standard user capability; a user can attach to any record they can already edit.

The optional companion package's DynoMerge Admin permission set is not needed to use DynoMerge. It grants access to the package's generation-log object and the Quote Status field, and is only relevant if your org installed the companion package.

Trying it temporarily? Salesforce permission set assignments support an expiration date — assign API Enabled for a fortnight and it removes itself. Setup → Permission Sets → Manage Assignments → Assign, then set the expiration.

Your fastest first document (with API access)

This path uses the Salesforce API, so it needs Enterprise, Unlimited, Performance or Developer Edition. On Starter or Essentials, skip to First document without API access below — you can do the same thing from any report page.

DynoMerge installs four starter templates the first time you open it, so there is nothing to import.

  1. Open any Opportunity in Salesforce.
  2. In the panel: Templates tab → Saved templates → click Load on Quote (basic).
  3. Go to the Generate documents tab. The banner shows the record you're viewing. Under ⚡ Live from the org, click Preview current record (live).

That's it — a quote with the record's real data, including its product line items. From the preview you can Copy for email, Attach to record (puts it in the record's Files), or Print / Save as PDF. To download the .docx, use Download .docx on the Generate documents tab.

First document without API access (Starter/Essentials orgs)

  1. Open any Salesforce report with the fields you want.
  2. The banner offers ⚡ Grab this report — click it. The rows are read straight off the page (long report? scroll and click Grab more rows until it says all records are captured).
  3. Pick a record in the Record dropdown — or ★ Whole report for a one-document summary of every row.
  4. No template yet? Open Edit template: every report column is listed on the left, ready to drag into the editor. Drag a few in, Save & generate →, and merge.

You can also export the report as CSV (Export → Details Only) and load the file in Step 2 of the Generate tab — same result, more clicks.
